Moneydance App Reviews

Great app—if you don’t care about your privacy

After painstakingly search, trying, and finally selecting MoneyDance over a handful of other powerful applications, we were happy with it for a year. But now, wifi sync is no longer available. The developer has seen fit to force you to sync your personal, financial information over the Internet via Dropbox. (Or you can choose not to sync at all, but the very reason I purchased this app was for that feature.) Label me among the tinfoil brigade if you want, but between major scrutiny breaches/hacks of corporations far larger than Dropbox and considering that Dropbox allows the federal government access to your files if they provide a warrant, this is a deal-breaker for us. I’ve nothing to hide from Uncle Sam, but I also don’t consent to be searched, and I furthermore don’t want to put my data online for hackers to mine. Will be looking for another app. Functionally, BTW, it has worked pretty well. The UI was nice, the UX decent. The syncing is the only issue that I really have with this.

Disastrous upgrade

As others have noted, when you upgrade to 2015 you can expect your financial data to be destroyed. Unfortunately this product has degraded over the years and I think its time to find something a little more stable and maintained to move to. So long Moneydance and thanks for the memories!

Improving, but still needs work

I agree with others here in that I would like to see investments, liabilities, etc., while on the go, and the current date should be populated. Also needed is the ability to hide/show accounts in the sidebar, like you can on the desktop version (or, at least include the sidebar listing in the sync), and a "must-have" for me is the ability to download transactions from financial institutions.

Screwed all my financial records up ... Dont try to fix something that aint broke

I have been using moneydance since 2011. I have (soon to be had) it on my desktop as well as the app on my phone. I have always done program updates... Well, this last time it is trying to have me "upgrade" and has screwed everything up! Not only are my bank accounts misplaced in the loan category, but it will not sync to my phone now AND...it is also telling me that I have to pay for it again or it will lock me out after so many transactions! I have contacted customer support about this and their answer was that I need to pay for it and I have to get "drop box" to sync... WHY... I bought all apple products and have never had a problem with things syncing automatically and I have already paid for your program and it was working fine before they tried to "upgrade" me when all I wanted was a software update!!! Sad thing is I had to give it at least one start to get the word out! Its just to bad they are FORCING people to spend more money and FORCING this update! It was working fine... Dont try to fix something that aint broke!

Great app! But...

The app provides the basics of what I need. Syncs well with my laptop, but I would like to see it show cleared reconciled transactions as the desktop version does.

Disappointed

I was under the impression that you could do your banking from an iPad as long as you had the desktop version. I was wrong, but I would pay for an app that would allow this. Thanks

Doesnt show budget

The app doesnt show the budget that you establish through the software on your computer. The app only displays your account balances. If I wanted to see my account balances I would simply open my bank app and view my balances real time.

Love it!

It just works for me. Simple, fast and clean interface. Syncing it using Dropbox and havent had any trouble with this app or the desktop version. Love the way it shows the current balance and not the register balance on the home screen.

Best Personal Finance App For IOS users

I switched to Apple products from Microsoft almost 2 years ago. Loved my MAC and was happy when I made the switch. Then began 2 years of accounting horror and misery. My meticulous record keeping using Quicken became a nightmare. I purchased Quicken for MAC. What an absolute piece of trash! Intuit should be ashamed to market it. Next I tried Ibank. Somewhat better than Quicken but still difficult and not user friendly. Finally heard raves about Mint money. Liked using it and spent a lot of time getting my records on it. Then discovered that it prints no reports. WHAT??? Mint money might be ok for a teenager keeping track of their allowance or for someone who doesnt file tax returns. Otherwise it is useless. I was just about ready to buy a computer just for Quicken because I was at my wits end with getting something decent on my MAC and IPhone. Finally I discovered Moneydance. I have been rescued from this nightmare. I am still getting used to it but it is doing the job. Highly recommend it to those who want a financial system that gives you the info you need to see where you are and to prepare your taxes. Very customizable and lots of reports. YEAH!!

Basic use only,

I was disappointed with the app after using the desktop version. I see only the ability to view balances and add to a never ending register. It you be nice to limit what is viewed and to see some of the other functions similar to the summary section of the desktop.

Missing information

The app does not sync investment accounts.

My problem is fixed

UPDATE!!! Infinite Kind has finally ruined this formerly wonderful financial software. By removing Wifi syncing as a sync choice they have lost part of their charter fan base. Because I cannot get Drop Box to properly sync my files, the Moneydance software (which I supported financially from its start) is no longer useful to me. They have refused to put back the WiFi Sync option for some unknown reason, so I have been forced to trash the paid for software in favor of Quicken, who listens to what its customers want.

NO WiFi Sync!?!

Just deleted it from my iPhone and Mac after confirming that you can’t just simply sync your data within your own network via WiFi. Moneydance wants you to use/trust Dropbox and put your finance data onto Dropbox servers. Even if that data is encrypted, it would be on a server I have not 100% access control over… therefore this is not a valid option.

Simple fix please? Sort Transactions by Date in Register?

Why in the world, when I am able with Moneydance to put upcoming transactions in my register via Reminders (great basic feature in desktop version), would you make me in the iPad app navigate down through ALL of them just to get to the current date? It seems like App Coding 101 to include a simple date sort in the register... Such a basic feature I would expect to be in any kind of financial transaction management app (this is the only one I have ever come across that doesnt include this). Please hire someone who knows how to code this simple feature, and include in your next release. Otherwise, I am finding the iPad version of Moneydance to be pretty good... but this apparent brain fart really hoses the UX, at least from my POV.

Convenient but weak

Its nice to be able to enter transactions in on the go, but with zero access to reporting and budgets, Im still dependent on Mint and other more manual means of tracking categories.

Sync never works, except...

I have been using Moneydance on the Mac for many years now (at least since 2010). And while it has had its hiccups, I have been (for the most part) a very happy user and it has worked for me very well. The iOS app, however, is a completely different story. I don’t mind that the functionality of the iOS app is rather limited compared to the desktop version. However, the app never, ever syncs properly with Dropbox. Some transactions get synced, others don’t, and there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. In fact, the only way I can ever get it to sync is to delete the iOS app and reinstall it. Then, it will sync correctly the first time I reopen the app and maybe one or two time more after that. But inevitably, it stops correctly syncing again. This has been going on for so long that I don’t even hold out any hope of it every being fixed.

Needs some attention

Seems this app has fallen off the development desk at Infinite Kid. An update is long overdue in view of the new features offered by the last few iOS updates. Also, Dropbox sync remains a bit sketchy at times and needs attention.

Love the app

I just switched from Quicken, which always had problems with their app. This app has worked great, I would like to see more features. This hasnt had any updates in over a year.

Buggy

Crash. Crash. Crash.
